Three Things to Know Before You Buy

• The keyboard cover is separate. A Surface Pro without one is a tablet, not a laptop replacement. Each product page states whether a cover is included.
• Nothing is upgradable. RAM and storage are fixed, so 8GB is the sensible minimum and 16GB is worth paying for if you keep machines a long time.
• The charger is a Surface connector. It is not USB-C on older models, so keep the adapter with the device. We stock the 39W Surface charger under chargers and power adapters.

What Should You Check Before Accepting the Delivery?

This matters more with a pre-owned laptop than a new one, and our terms say it plainly: a display or keyboard fault reported after the handover is not covered by any warranty. So check these four things while the courier is still with you, or at the counter before you leave the shop.

• The display. Open a plain white and a plain black image full screen and look for dead pixels, patches or lines.
• Every key. Open a text editor and press every key once, including the arrow keys and the number row.
• The battery. Unplug the charger and confirm the machine holds a charge. Two hours of backup is guaranteed for 15 days.
• Ports and camera. Plug something into each USB port, and open the camera app once.
