What This MacBook Air M1 Is Good For

8GB of Unified Memory Is Not the Same as 8GB of RAM
This matters when comparing against a Windows laptop. On the M1, memory sits on the same package as the processor and is shared between the CPU and GPU, which makes it considerably faster to reach than the DDR4 in an Intel machine. In practice an 8GB M1 handles more open work than 8GB in an older laptop. It is still 8GB, so very heavy video projects will want more.
